Bushnell Pro 1600
By ED TRAVIS, Editor FrontPageGolf.com
Bushnell Outdoor Products has the top reputation in the laser range
finder business and upped the competitive ante with the introduction of
the new Pro 1600 last year. We put the Pro 1600 Tournament Edition up
against two other laser range finders and it finished on top by a wide
margin.

The Pro 1600 had two outstanding features revealed in the comparison.
First was the comfortable way it fits the hand combined with the 7X
magnification made it very quick and easy to use, not always the case
with some laser range finders.

But the feature that really stood out was the range finding capability not
just to a pin with reflectors but to pins without them or to the top of a
greenside bunker or far edge of a hazard, in other words any place
needed. Of course other laser range finders can do this but in our
experience lots of times just not as quickly or easily.

The Slope Edition of the Pro 1600 is similar but not allowed for
tournament play due to a distance readout adjusting capability for
slopes; i.e. pins up hill or down hill from the fairway, which is contra to
USGA regulations.

The Bushnell Pro 1600
Tournament Edition laser
range finder also comes in
a Slope Edition which is
not allowed for use in
tournaments.
The Pro 1600 was developed according to Bushnell Senior Product
Manager Jordan Vermillion, “From a Tour standpoint, we gathered
feedback from our Tour Rep Royce Nielson, former caddy for Arnold
Palmer, to better understand what the world’s best players and their
caddies’ desire when preparing for tournaments. We also wanted to
bring to market a unit that catered to the recreational golfer who is
seeking precise accuracy and doesn’t want to rely on the scorecard or
sprinkler heads for a distance reading.”

Retail price for the Tournament Edition is $430 and the Slope Edition
$480.
