Bushnell Hybrid range finder
Best of two worlds
By ED TRAVIS
February 11, 2011 - Bushnell enjoys the reputation of
being the gold standard of laser range finders. In fact,
a large majority of touring professionals and their
caddies use Bushnell devices to measure distances
during practice rounds to ensure accurate club
selection during competition. The new Bushnell Hybrid
goes a step further by combining a GPS yardage
system with the laser.
Priced at $499 the Hybrid comes with 16,000 courses
preloaded (meaning no per course fees) into the GPS
system. The GPS readout gives distance to the front,
back and center of the green plus yardage to four
custom points on each hole. Need precise distance
such as over a hazard? The laser gives it to you
functioning just like the other Bushnell laser range
finders. And as Bushnell puts it in their promotional
literature, “The GPS distances are also convenient on
days when it is cart-paths-only when golfers are
deciding what clubs to bring with them."

Phil Gyori, Executive Vice President of Marketing, said,
“We believe this first of its kind rangefinder will give
golfers the best of both worlds. There has been a long
ongoing debate over laser rangefinders and GPS
devices, and we are exited to bring the Hybrid to
consumers and offer them a product that marries the
best laser rangefinder technology with the easy to use
features of a GPS rangefinder.”
The Bushnell Hybrid is available now in retail outlets
and before the question arises, the Hybrid is legal for
tournament play under a USGA decision that permits a
local rule allowing use of a distance-measuring device
to obtain distance information.
